We would like your help. Our very own St Peter’s Toddler Group has been nominated in ASDA Broadstairs for the Green Token Scheme. If you could spare a moment to vote, please visit (www.asda.com/green-tokens). Voting has begun and will run until Saturday 31st December. You are able to vote once every seven days, so please, if you can, return and revote in the following weeks. St Peter’s Toddler Group returns on Thursday 3rd November. Many thanks, St Peter’s Toddlers.
There will be a working party in the Churchyard on Saturday 5th November commencing between 9.30am and 10.00am. We will work until 12.00 noon. We will be tidying the area from the main gateway up to the Church porch – this will include the land between the East end of the building and the flint wall. Hope you can come and help us. Refreshments will be provided. Please bring your own secateurs, shears and small saws if you have them. More information from Sally Wood (01843) 862058.
A Time to Remember – If you have had the funeral of a close member of your family held at or through St Peter’s Church, or a Service in the Churchyard or Garden of Remembrance, you and any of your family and friends who might like to come with you are invited to attend a special annual service to commemorate those who have died in recent years. This annual service, to be held at St Peter’s Church at 4.00pm on Sunday 6th November is an opportunity to remember and give thanks for members of our families who are no longer with us. The service will include familiar hymns, prayers of comfort; and loved ones will be remembered by name. There will also be an opportunity to light a candle in memory of those you have loved who have died. If you would like the name of your loved one to be read out during the service, please provide Laura in the Parish Office with details. Following the service, refreshments will be served in Church. Do join us – all are welcome.
Fundraising
The Festive Fayre will take place on Saturday 19th November with the usual range of stalls, raffles, tombolas and other activities. The team will need people to run the individual stalls, assist in the kitchen, bake cakes, run the raffle and the tombolas and help with the hundred-and-one other tasks which running a successful fayre entails and I do hope that as many people as possible will be available to help out. Last year’s Festive Fayre was very successful, not only because we raised a good sum for Church funds but also because the wider community got to see St Peter’s at its very best and many obviously enjoyed the experience. Please help us out if you can.
We are in great need of more raffle prizes, because the Festive Fayre is booked to take place before Christmas and will involve a raffle. If you have anything which you can donate, such as some unwanted present or that box of sweets which is sitting there tempting you, when you really need to diet (and don’t we all know what that’s like!), or indeed anything else that you can let us have, please let us know or drop them into the Parish Office. Items for children will be especially welcome.
We are also in need of cake to sell on the Cake Stall at the Festive Fayre and it will be really helpful if as many of the excellent cake-makers out there can bake one or two for us. They always go down a storm with the buyers at the Fayres and Fetes and are very well received indeed when we serve them at events so please, if you can, please help us.
The next Boot Fair will run on Saturday 14th January 2023.
To Book – Tickets, etc. for all fundraising events can be purchased via the Parish Office, Hopeville Avenue between 9.30am – 12.30pm weekdays. You can also either ring to book – (01843) 866061 or email parishoffice@stpeterinthanet.org.uk Thank you, Fundraising Team.
We will be supporting Operation Christmas Child again this year and filling shoeboxes for Samaritan’s Purse, many of which will go to Ukraine. Boxes (25p each) and leaflets can be obtained from Church and the Parish Office. Sylvia Mills.
This year I am hoping to have a stall again at the Festive Fayre on Saturday 19th November selling the usual decorations, wreaths and Christmas items. Therefore I would be very grateful for any donations of baubles, tinsel, old wreaths, garlands, candles, etc. which I can be made into Christmassy goods. Also, unwanted gifts which can be sold as presents would be welcome. Items can be left at the Parish Office or I can collect them from you if necessary. Please ring or leave a message on 07887361249. Thank you, Sue Barker.
Christmas Tree Festival 2022 – This popular event will be held from Friday 9th December to Sunday 11th December and we are all hoping that local groups, clubs, etc. will join us to once again make this a success. For a £15.00 donation your club, group, etc. can have a quality Norway spruce tree to decorate and publicise your existence to the many visitors who will visit the Church during the Festival. The theme this year is This is What We Do! so will be an ideal opportunity to show what goes on in the various clubs and societies in our area. For further details or a booking form please contact Pauline Osborne (01843) 225801 or email pauline.osborne@rocketmail.com
John Cox is now settled into his new home in Herne Bay but misses us and would be delighted to have visitors. If you would like to visit John, please phone him first.
Thanet Food Link – Thank you so much for all those who give so generously to this food bank. The coordinator has said that they are desperately in need of desserts and tinned vegetables. Items can be left in Church on a Sunday 9.30am – 11.00am or Wednesday morning 10.00am – 12 noon. Thank you.
The Homeless – Thank you for your gifts of scarves, gloves and a woollen hat. I am collecting warm gloves, scarves, hats and socks which I give to the Salvation Army, who are helping the large number of homeless living on the streets. There is a box in the Church porch. Your generosity is greatly appreciated. Thank you, June Binfield, junebinfield@outlook.com or (01843) 861286 or 07711072233.
Missing – Can you help to be the ears and eyes of our Church family? Do you care about those around you? If the answer is yes, then next time you’re in Church look around you. If a familiar face has been missing for some weeks do something about it, make enquiries, make a phone call mention it to someone – THIS IS NOT BEING NOSEY but showing concern for our Church family. Next time it could be you missing from that pew – I WONDER IF ANYONE WOULD CARE?
Morning Prayer is held via Zoom on a Monday and Thursday morning at 9.00am and in Church on a Wednesday morning at 9.00am. For the Zoom link, please contact Rev Alice at curate@stpeterinthanet.org.uk and she will email you the link.
The Monday Home Group meets weekly at 2.30pm at 92 Dumpton Park Drive, CT10 1RL (with an additional Zoom option for anyone who can’t join in person). Our aim is to spend about an hour reflecting together on the Bible readings heard in Church the previous day, and to enjoy fellowship and support with prayer. If you’d like to join us, even as a one-off, please do come along – we’d be delighted. If you’d like more information, do contact Michael or Elspeth Cooke on (01843) 863293.
‘Hour of Prayer’ in Church on Wednesdays 11.00am – 12 Noon – A non-led opportunity to sit quietly with God, to light a candle if you would like to, and – if you feel God has said something to you which you’d like to share – to write that down for others to pray over. Come for as long or as short a time as you like, and be renewed and refreshed by God. Any questions, please contact Rev Alice on curate@stpeterinthanet.org.uk and do come if you can!
The Wednesday Group – We will meet on Wednesday 2nd November at 21 Fig Tree Road at 2.30pm. We pray together and are looking at the Gospel of Matthew, covering some background and reading and considering a number of passages. We share a cup of tea and a chat before you go home. Please let June know if you need a lift. All are welcome. In Advent we will meet weekly and will be looking at Prayer. For more information, please contact June Binfield, junebinfield@outlook.com or (01843) 861286 or 07711072233.
