Festive Fayre
Do you have any unwanted wool or jewellery that you could donate to the Church for sale at the Festive Fayre? I know that it’s very early to start thinking about the Festive Fayre (it is booked for Saturday 25th November) but when the Fundraising Committee analysed the outcomes from the Summer Fête we found that the Craft Stall and the Jewellery and Handbag Stall had both suffered from a lack of items to sell, despite there being willing buyers around. This being the case, we felt it would be wise to give our audience an advance ‘heads up’ and seek donations in these specific areas well in advance so, if you have any spare wool or jewellery (large and expensive diamonds, sapphires and emeralds will be especially welcome of course!!), please take them to the Parish Office where they can be stored in safety for the Festive Fayre later in the year. Please let me know if you have any queries, thank you.
To Book – Please call in to the Parish Office between 9.30am – 12.30pm weekdays. You can also either ring to book – (01843) 866061 or email parishoffice@stpeterinthanet.org.uk Roy Brown, Fundraising Team.
Ride and Stride is taking place on Saturday 9th September. Please get in touch with Patrick Dunn (Email: pld36@hotmail.com) if you 1. need a sponsorship form for taking part in this event; and/or 2. can volunteer an hour or more to welcome walkers and riders to our Church between 10.00am and 6.00pm (Patrick will make a sign-up sheet). Thank you.
The Licensing and Installation of Rev’d Matt Hodder as our Priest in Charge will be held on Sunday 10th September at 7.00pm. After the service, refreshments will be served in the main hall. We look forward to seeing you then. Ian and Sylvia.
The Thanet Deanery Roadshow is on Tuesday 12th September at Holy Trinity Church, Margate, CT9 3TN from 2.00pm – 3.00pm. Topics are: Finance, Church and Schools Partnerships, Church Buildings. It is in the afternoon as it is hoped there will be some representation from Church schools. If you have any queries, please contact June Binfield, junebinfield@outlook.com or (01843) 861286 or 07711 072233.
Thank you to all the volunteers who make it possible to run St Peter’s Toddler Group but in order to keep the group going forward, more volunteers would be most welcome. If you can spare a couple of hours once or twice a month during term time and would be happy to chat to families and enjoy a cuppa, please let Laura know in the Parish Office. The sessions run on Thursday mornings in the Main Hall. We return from summer break on Thursday 14th September at 9.30am.
The Thanet Deanery is holding a Day of Encouragement to discuss the Deanery Plan. PCC Members are encouraged to attend so that we have some input into the discussions. It will be at All Saints, Birchington on Saturday 16th September from 10.00am to 3.00pm (coffee from 9.30am). Further details available from June Binfield, junebinfield@outlook.com or (01843) 861286 or 07711 072233. If you can attend, please email judith.andrewsllm@outlook.com
Appeal from Sarah Arrowsmith (John Cox’s Daughter) – My husband and I recently joined the Alzheimer’s Society’s ‘Trek26’ in the Brecon Beacons to raise money in John’s name for the Alzheimer’s Society. We have a JustGiving page (link below) and I’m wondering if any members of the congregation who remember Dad might like to donate? Thank you, Sarah.

Thanet Food Link – Thank you so much for all those who give so generously to this food bank. Items can be left in Church on a Sunday 9.30am – 11.00am or Wednesday morning 10.00am – 12 noon. Please would you bring donations of food into Church and not leave them in the South Porch. The baskets are in Church on the pews behind the information shelf, on the South side. This has become necessary because of recent thefts. Thank you. Sylvia Mills.
School Uniforms – Do you have uniforms that your child has grown out of, or have they changed schools? The Baptist Church is going to organise a uniform bank to assist parents. If you have donations of uniforms, these can be left in Church by the food bank donations and I will take them to the Baptist Church. Details of how to access the uniform bank will be announced as soon as I know. Thank you. Sylvia Mills.
Missing – Can you help to be the ears and eyes of our Church family? Do you care about those around you? If the answer is yes, then next time you’re in Church look around you. If a familiar face has been missing for some weeks do something about it – make enquiries, make a phone call, mention it to someone. THIS IS NOT BEING NOSEY but showing concern for our Church family. Next time it could be you missing from that pew – WOULD ANYONE CARE?
Photographs – Please do not take photos during the service. If you want to take them after the service has finished, please ensure you only take a picture of your own child or family member. Please obtain permission from anyone else before you take their photo. Thank you.

‘Hour of Prayer’ in Church on Wednesdays 11.00am – 12 Noon – A non-led opportunity to sit quietly with God, to light a candle if you would like to, and – if you feel God has said something to you which you’d like to share – to write that down for others to pray over. Come for as long or as short a time as you like, and be renewed and refreshed by God. Any questions, please contact Rev’d Alice on curate@stpeterinthanet.org.uk and do come if you can!
The Wednesday Home Group meets monthly and we are looking at encounters between Jesus and people He met. Our next meeting will be on Wednesday 6th September. Please bring a Bible. We will not be meeting in August. We hope to meet weekly In Advent. We meet at 21 Fig Tree Road, Broadstairs, CT10 3AQ. All are welcome. For more information or if you need a lift, please contact June Binfield, junebinfield@outlook.com or (01843) 861286 or 07711 072233.
