“God’s story – Our Story”
This Lent we will be using the reflection and study materials “God’s Story – Our Story” which Archbishop Justin and Canterbury Diocese have helped to prepare, and which they warmly commend for us all to engage in. Both of our House Groups will be following this course, via zoom.
The Monday Group are holding theirs on Monday afternoons at 2.30pm, and each session will last about 90 minutes. There will also be an opportunity to participate over the phone. If you would like to join this group, please email Michael Cooke mcooke.92@btinternet.com or phone him on (01843 863293), and he will give you more details.
The Wednesday Group are holding theirs on Wednesday afternoons at 2.30 pm for the course; 2pm to join and post private prayer. For more details contact June Binfield: junebinfield@outlook.com or 01843 861286). Details re using zoom from Rev Alice, curate@stpeterinthanet.org.uk
For those not wanting to join these groups I have already emailed you the material we will be covering, so that you can engage with it at home. I do hope and pray you will all take part in one way or another, as together we explore how God’s Story relates to our own stories of faith, difficulties and blessings and to the challenging times we are living through.
Zoom Coffee and Chat
With Lockdown still upon us and restrictions placed on our going out and meeting people, I know many of you are missing ‘seeing’ people, so I would like to invite you to a weekly zoom ‘coffee and chat’ for half an hour on a Monday morning at 11:30 and a Thursday afternoon at 3pm. Please provide your own tea or coffee and then spend time catching up with friends. All are welcome, please email revjandurrans@gmail.com if you would like to join us, and I will then email you the link. Rev Jan (and Rev Alice).
The Thanet Winter Shelter. Thank you for the gifts which I was able to take for the Shelter this week. The Shelter this year has provided respite from the cold and from a life on the streets in a building with individual rooms with shower facilities and regular hot meals. Activities and support have aimed at improving self-esteem and at changing life styles. Every year a few are able to make the transition to a hostel with continued support but others return to the streets. The reasons for homelessness are many. Family breakdown, financial problems, discharge from prison, addiction and mental health issues are just some causes. The shelter closes on March 31st. Please give gloves, hats, socks, scarves, sachet drinks which are all needed. You can leave gifts on the 14th March in the vicarage porch or outside 21 Fig Tree Road as the church will not be open. I will also collect any gifts on 21st and 28th March that are left in church or at the vicarage or 21 Fig Tree Road. Despite the lockdown and the snow your generosity has made a very real contribution to the Shelter. (junebinfield@outlook.com or 01843 861286 or 07711072233).
Thanet Food Bank Thank you so much for all those who continue to give so generously to this food bank. With the church closed (except for private prayer on a Sunday morning 10am – 11am), I am happy for you to leave any donations in the vicarage porch, if you are not able to come on a Sunday. Thank you.
