Church Watch – We hope to have our Church open for visitors during the Summer months, but to do this we need volunteers to be in Church for two hours (10.00am – 12 noon) each morning to welcome visitors. As Wednesday each week is covered with the Wednesday Service and ‘Hour of Prayer’, and Friday is covered by the cleaners, volunteers are required for Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. If you feel you can help, please contact Richard Baker at dick.baker1@btinternet.com or on (01843) 865090.
Christian Aid Plant Stall will remain in the hall foyer for the next couple of weeks. Do pop in when the hall is open and have a look – you might find just what you need for that gap in the border. Elspeth Cooke (01843) 863293.
St Peter’s Women’s Group – The Summer term starts on Tuesday 3rd May when Pat Dunn, will give a talk on Daisy’s War. Guests are welcome to join us for a 7.30pm start. We meet in the Portland Centre, tea, coffee and biscuits are available and a raffle. Thank you, Gill Lovelock, Chair and Secretary.
St Peter’s Toddlers – We are delighted to announce that this is being run by ourselves and the Baptist Church on Thursday mornings from 9.30am until 11.00am term-time only. If you think you could help with this on a rota basis or would like to be kept updated, please see me or Toni or email stpeterstoddlers@gmail.com. Thank you, Rev Jan.
Electoral Roll – Advance notice is given that a revision of the Electoral Roll for St Peter’s Church will be completed by Saturday 7th May 2022. After that date no further names can be added to the Roll until after the APCM on Sunday 22nd May 2022. An official notice will be displayed in the South Porch, a copy of the existing Roll will be available for inspection in the Church alongside forms for those wishing to join the Electoral Roll. If your name is on the current Roll and you wish to remain on it, you need take no further action. Gill Horne, Electoral Roll Officer.
Could you help post some envelopes through letterboxes? During the week 8-15th May, we shall be delivering Christian Aid Delivery-only envelopes in the streets close to the Church with a note inviting recipients to return them to the Parish Office. Could you deliver some envelopes? If so, please either speak to me or sign up on the list near the south door of the Church today. Thank you. Elspeth Cooke (01843) 863293
RELAUNCH of Loose Change Boxes – Now that we are getting back to some normality, we would like to relaunch this scheme. If you already have a box then please start reusing it and when your box is full take it into the Parish Office or ring Don (01843) 602287 to arrange a pick up. When in the Parish Office, please empty the change into an envelope with your name and phone number on it then start again. I then phone you to let you know how much you have contributed. If you are new to the scheme or want to restart then new boxes will be in the Office and the Church (by coffee table) – so simply take a box and put your details down on the list and start collecting. Hopefully the scheme will soon be as successful as it has been in the past. Don Bumpstead for Fundraising Team.
Thanet Food Link – Thank you so much for all those who give so generously to this food bank. The coordinator has said that present shortages are: tinned tomatoes, tinned soup, tinned fruit, tinned vegetables, cereal, pasta, rice, biscuits, tea bags (box of 80), coffee instant (100g jar). Also needed are toiletries (toothpaste, toothbrushes, shower gel and shampoo). Items can be left in Church on a Sunday 9.30am – 11.00am or Wednesday morning 10.00am – 12 noon. Thank you, Rev Jan.
Don’t forget next Friday’s ‘Talk & Tea’ event with Rev Alice Bates. It will take place on Friday 6th May, starting at 2.00pm and full Afternoon Tea will be served as part of the event. All those who signed up for the original event are welcome, but there are still some tickets left so, if you know anyone else who would like to come, please let us know. Tickets are only £10.00 which will buy them a really interesting talk from Alice about growing up in Mexico plus the excellent Afternoon Tea. What’s not to like!
The Thanet Male Voice Choir has agreed to perform for us on Saturday 21st May and the concert will start at 7.30pm in the Church. Tickets are now available at £10.00 each, bookable in advance and wine will be served during the interval. If you would like tickets, please call the Parish Office, or simply call in during office hours. It should be a lovely evening, so please come along if you can.
An appeal to all the cake makers out there! We need cake to serve at the ‘Talk and Tea’ event and any help in this direction will be very gratefully received. I know that some of you can make the most brilliant cakes so, if you can help us, please contact either Marion Brown or Sylvia Mills, if needs be via The Parish Office.
We like to run raffles at some of our events, but we are rather short of Raffle Prizes now and we would be very grateful for anything which you could donate. Please bring any contributions to the Parish Office.
If you can help by selling some Raffle Tickets for the Summer Fair which is taking place on Saturday 25th June, do please phone or call at the Parish Office so that some can be given to you.
