Saturday 30 10:00 St Peter’s Church Summer Fete
Remember Today Sunday 20th May Day of Pentecost there will be NO 9.30 service here at St Peters Church as we will be joining with St Peters Baptist church and Elim Oasis for a joint service at Elim Oasis Church (Ranelagh Grove, St Peters) which will begin at 10:30am. I hope to see you all there.
Lifting of Suspension of Living
After Rev’d Jonathan Cruickshank and Rev’d David Roper left St. Peter’s and Holy Trinity Church respectively, the two Livings were suspended. A few months ago, as current Chairman of Broadstairs Group Council, I wrote to the Archdeacon to ask that the Livings be restored, pointing out that we now have two excellent priests in charge who were enhancing the ministry and mission of the two churches and also noting that all three churches in the Group have always paid the full Parish Share.
We have recently been informed that Bishop Trevor has given permission for our request to be granted. Documentation has to be prepared to effect this, after which Rev’d Jan and Father Dominic will be Licensed at the Chapel at Old Palace. Pauline Osborne, Churchwarden.
ENQUIRING ABOUT THE CHRISTIAN FAITH For those of you who are thinking about getting confirmed, or those who are already, but want to learn more about the Christian faith, I will be holding six sessions on the following Wednesday evenings (7pm at the Vicarage): 13th, 20th and 27th June, 18th, 25th July, and 1st August
The Confirmation Service will be on Tuesday 18th September 7pm at St Peters church. Please have a word with me if you are interested. Rev’d Jan (01843 869169)
Thank you for supporting plant stall
The Christian Aid plant stall held in the hall foyer during early May raised over £330. Thank you so much to everyone who supported it by donating plants or buying. Elspeth Cooke
The next meeting of the YAHWEH Club is at St. Mark’s Church Hall, Ramsgate on Wednesday 23rd May from 1-3 pm. Refreshments, friendship and Christian fellowship are available. The meeting is especially for the elderly including anyone who is isolated, lonely or finding life difficult. You are encouraged to come and bring along someone who might enjoy the afternoon.
Monday @ 7. I am sure everyone enjoyed ”My Fair Lady” at the Granville Theatre, thanks to Bob Drywood for arranging that. Our next event will be on Monday 11th June, at 2pm, at the Thanet Bowls Club, Montefoire Ave, Ramsgate. This is outdoor bowls, and it should be a fun afternoon, with a bit of tuition, and then a match with the members, followed, of course, by tea and cake. Please come along even if you just want to watch. The cost is £2 each. I need to know numbers, and whether or not you are playing, this is a new venture, and hopefully a fun one! Please contact me, Marion Brown, at Tel 604524, or email marion.biggs@ gmail.com Thank you.
St Peter’s Village Open Gardens Sunday 3rd June from 1 to 5 pm. Tickets £4 available from the Parish Office, or from the Portland Centre on the day. Maps available on the day, and refreshments. All gardens within walking distance from the church. Any queries, please contact Sue Brooks, 01843 604700.
Extra attractions, the Church will be open and the bell ringers will ring a quarter peal from 3 pm. Also tea and cake will be served in the Vicarage Garden.
FUND RAISING NEWS
The ‘Wonders of Chocolate Revealed’ – Talk and Tea. A big thank you to all who helped set up, Carl Whitewood for his enlightening and entertaining talk and to the wonderful team who prepared and served the special tea.
The Summer Fete
The summer fete is drawing near and preparations are already well under way. The organiser, Roger Waddell will soon be back in the UK and will hold a co-ord meeting for all the helpers so, if you took part last year, please support us again if you can. You will be very welcome indeed.
The Grand Raffle
Extra tickets are available from the Parish Office, so please sell them whenever you can. They are a vital part of the summer fete and are essential to our fund raising effort, so please do all that you can to sell raffle tickets and return the counterfoils + monies to the Parish office.
The Summer Disco Dance Party
The next disco dance party will take place on 7th July so, if you would like to come along for a bit of fun and dancing, please put this date in your diary. Tickets available soon.
Monday Home Group – 2:30 pm at 92 Dumpton Park Drive Broadstairs CT10 1RL
We look forward to reflecting together tomorrow (21st) for about an hour on different aspects of the Bible Readings heard in church the previous day, and then conclude with fellowship over a cup of tea. As each session is a ‘stand-alone’, newcomers are warmly invited to join us. If you’d like to know more, do please phone Michael & Elspeth Cooke on 863293. NB We shall not be meeting on 28th May and 4th June, but then resume as usual on 11th June.
Wednesday Home Group – 2.30 pm at St Leu, Vicarage Street
We start each meeting with a short prayer and will then remind ourselves of the readings from the previous Sunday. Then open discussion, very open quite often! Parish and world-wide goings-on get a hearing! Also we probably have space for a couple more regulars. Or you might like to visit once to see what goes on. Please ring John Cox on 07989 057737 for more information.
