Garden of Remembrance – volunteers needed urgently Don Bumpstead works very hard in the Garden each Monday from about 9.00 to 4.00 but at this time of year there is a lot to be done. If you can spare an hour or two on a Monday just come along with gardening tools and Don will give you an area to work on.
Summer Fete Saturday 30th June. The Church will be open and decorated for St. Peters Day Festival; this will be from 10.00 am – 3.00 pm. We would appreciate it if you could spare an hour during that time to welcome visitors to our Church. Rota by South door. Many thanks Sally Wood.
Monday @ 7. Our next event is at Mount Ephraim Gardens on WEDNESDAY 11th July, PLEASE NOTE CHANGE OF DATE. We will meet in the car park at 2pm, the Group entry fee is £6 each. I have arranged to have a separate room for our afternoon tea at 3.30pm. There will, of course, be an additional charge for this, but people can order and pay for what they want, it is not a set tea. I need to have numbers by 1st July at the latest. We are hoping for some nice weather. Contact Marion at Tel 604524, or marion.biggs@gmail.com. Thank you.
ENQUIRING ABOUT THE CHRISTIAN FAITH For those of you who are thinking about getting confirmed, or those who are already, but want to learn more about the Christian faith, I will be holding six sessions on the following Wednesday evenings (7pm at the Vicarage): 20th and 27th June, 18th, 25th July, and 1st August.
Please have a word with me if you are interested. Rev’d Jan (01843 869169)
Friends AGM. The AGM of the Friends of St Peter and St Andrew’s Churches is to be held on Monday, 2nd July, at St Peter’s Church Hall, starting at 7 pm. Thanking you in anticipation, Maureen Daley, Secretary.
Holiday Club Upton School 25th-27th July (Morning & Afternoon); Family Fun Day: Saturday 28th July. We need lots of people to be a part of the team: availability & willingness are the key attributes we need: there will be something that everyone can help with. If you can help, please contact Maggie Paddison: maggiepaddison@gmail.com Thank you. Rev Jan
Impact England 2018 – inter-church week of mission 29th July – 5th August. We need people to make and serve food and to be on car park duty at St Georges School, and have welcoming people who can smile and give directions etc. etc. Those with a bit more energy can be involved in messy church, the sports camps and community projects.
The sports camps will be aimed at secondary school age with basketball and American football at St. George’s school. Messy church at the Baptist church will be aimed at primary school and younger. Do let me know if you hear of people in the community who need our help with practical projects like gardening or painting and decorating.
There will be a more detailed meeting on Mon 2nd July 7.30pm at Elim Oasis Church so please do come along and this will be open to all. For more information contact Rev. Alan Osborn Pastor at Elim Oasis Church www.elimoasischurch.com
FUND RAISING NEWS
Fete News.
Preparations are coming on well, although we are now looking for some specific help
- Christine Balding is looking for three ‘booky’ people who would be prepared to help sort out the books beforehand and help on the bookstall on the Fete day. Please phone me.
- I need a person with a large pick-up truck, flat-bed truck to collect some hanging rails (for the clothes stall) from Westwood Cross on 29th and return them on July 1st. Might you know someone who would help me please? My friend who did it last year will be away on business. It’s not a big job, half an hour would see it completed, but they won’t fit in a car or even a large van. My mobile number is at the foot of this note.
- St Peter’s Women’s Club still need more bottles of wine, or bottles of anything, for their bottle tombola. Also a few more Tombola prizes will help Anna and Lloyd with their stall. These are both always a very popular stall and we don’t want to run out of prizes half way through the meeting. Please drop them into Simon in the office. And mark them Tombola.
- We now have three helpers to erect the tents early on Saturday morning, but could really do with another three. If you are prepared to help at 7am on Saturday, please phone me.
- Friday 29th is set up afternoon and evening, and the more help we can get with all sorts of jobs, the sooner we can get finished. Please phone me.
THANK YOU IN ADVANCE FOR ANY TIME YOU CAN GIVE. ROGER. 07968 638452
The Grand Raffle
There are still some books of unsold tickets for the Grand Raffle left to sell. If you. If you can help us to sell any more, it will be really useful if you can take a book or two. The Grand Raffle always makes a big contribution to finances of St. Peter’s and there will be a lot of lovely prizes on offer on the day of the Fete, all waiting to be won.
The Summer Disco Party – 7th July
This year’s Summer Disco Party will be a bit different from the usual events as it will feature mainly 50s, 60s and 70s music. If, like me, you can remember the days of huge flares, platform shoes, mini skirts, dazzling shirts in unwise colours, ‘kipper’ ties and long, bushy hair (ah… those were the days!) this might be for you. Tickets for the Summer Disco Party will soon be available from the Parish office so, come along to recall some of those memorable moments from forty years ago, bring a friend and help raise funds for the Garden of Remembrance into the bargain. See you there!
The Glenn Miller Evening
On 25th August we are trying something new – a Big Band night starring Glenn Miller (not the real one, of course!!). We are still finalising all the details with the people who will be running the show but it will have a distinct World War 2 theme, featuring the music of the day, a singer, and you might even see a few soldiers here and there. If you are interested, put the date in your diary. (By the way, can anyone here still do the Jitterbug?!!).
Dates for your diary…
1st July 6:30pm – Broadstairs Group Choral Evensong for Petertide (at St Peters Church).
9th September – 11am Broadstairs and St Peters Town Council Civic Service (at St Peters Church) NO 9.30 service on this Sunday.
18th September – 7pm Deanery Confirmation service (at St Peters Church).
Monday Home Group 2:30 pm at 92 Dumpton Park Drive, Broadstairs CT10 1RL
This Monday 18th we shall be reflecting on “The Rich Man” episode from the highly acclaimed “Tales from the Madhouse” set of vignettes produced by the Bible Society and the BBC. It’s a one-off session, so please feel free to join us at Elspeth and Michael’s home. For more details, do phone us on 01843 863293.
Wednesday Home Group – 2.30 pm at St Leu, Vicarage Street
We start each meeting with a short prayer and will then remind ourselves of the readings from the previous Sunday. Then open discussion, very open quite often! Parish and world-wide goings-on get a hearing! Also we probably have space for a couple more regulars. Or you might like to visit once to see what goes on. Please ring John Cox on 07989 057737 for more information.
