Christian Aid Week
The St Peter’s house-to-house collection in the parish raised £579.16 and the envelopes in church raised £344.65. Together with the plant stall (£340.94) the total raised in the parish was £1264.75 (with a further £117.05 tax reclaimable through Gift Aid) Many thanks to those who contributed in any way to this very worthwhile total. A special thank you to the small band of House-to-house collectors. Elspeth Cooke
Holiday Club Upton School 25th-27th July (Morning & Afternoon); Family Fun Day: Saturday 28th July. We need lots of people to be a part of the team: availability & willingness are the key attributes we need: there will be something that everyone can help with. Examples:
- car park duty,
- registration team,
- refreshment team,
- helping with the children: craft, games, stories;
- sitting & chatting with people in the parent’s tent;
- an extra pair of hands;
- & many other things too…
Our 1st team meeting is going to be next Friday 8th June at 6.30pm at QRBC. The meeting will be less than an hour (& there’ll be doughnuts…) – please come along & encourage each other & us that this will be the best Holiday Club ever. If you can help, please contact Maggie Paddison: maggiepaddison@gmail.com Thank you. Rev Jan
ENQUIRING ABOUT THE CHRISTIAN FAITH For those of you who are thinking about getting confirmed, or those who are already, but want to learn more about the Christian faith, I will be holding six sessions on the following Wednesday evenings (7pm at the Vicarage): 13th, 20th and 27th June, 18th, 25th July, and 1st August
The Confirmation Service will be on Tuesday 18th September 7pm at St Peters church. Please have a word with me if you are interested. Rev’d Jan (01843 869169)
Monday @ 7. Our next event is on Monday 11th June at 2pm, at Thanet Bowls Club, Montefiore Avenue, Ramsgate. We will have some fun tuition, then a match with some of the members, followed, of course, by tea and cake. The cost is £2 per head. This is a new venture for us, and it will hopefully be a fun afternoon. Do please come, even if you just want to watch. I need to know urgently if you are coming, and whether you are playing or just watching. They need numbers very soon. Please contact me, Marion Brown at tel: 604524, or email marion.biggs@gmail.com. Thank you.
FUND RAISING NEWS
The Grand Raffle There are still a lot of tickets for the Grand Raffle left to sell so, if you haven’t taken any books yet or you have any friends or relatives left uncanvassed, see if you get anyone to buy a few more. There are, as always, some great prizes to be won and the more you can sell, the more that will be raised for the church. If we all try, we might even surpass last year’s total. Books of raffle tickets are always available in the Parish Office.
The Summer Fete We are now at the start of June, which means that the Summer Fête is not far away!!
I hope you have all been having a really good sort out at home as once again we are looking for items to sell. We need as much as possible for the various stalls. These can range from plants from your garden to good condition clothes that you no longer wear, or ornaments and gadgets that you no longer use. Our Bric-a-brac stall is always very popular, we also have a bottle tom-bola so we need bottles of wine, or bottles of anything for prizes. We have a home-made cake and preserves stalls, which both need items brought on the day, not to mention other prizes for our Raffle and Tombola. So there are many ways you can affect the amount of money we raise at the fête and any money raised will be split between the Church expenses and the continuation of our Garden of Remembrance refurbishment plans.
Please could you keep any items that you have until the middle of June, and bring them into the Parish office on or after 19th June. We can store items in the area below the Portland Centre, but would like them to arrive if possible during the mornings of 19th – 22nd between 10am and noon, so that it does not cause too much disruption to groups meeting in the halls, or Simon’s job in the office. If this is inconvenient please contact me and I will make a special arrangement.
I already have a good number of helpers willing to run and help with stalls, but there is always room for an extra pair of hands, so if you would like to help this year and haven’t yet let me know, please contact me and I will pleased to hear from you. We also need a few more helpers on Friday 29th to help set up the hall and carry out a few last minute jobs, so please contact me if you can spare some time. My mobile number is 07968 638452. An odd hour between noon and 8pm would also be great. The Fête is very much a team effort so please feel free to join us if you are able to.
Best wishes and thank you, Roger Waddell, Fête Co-Ordinator
The Summer Disco Party – 7th July Tickets for the Summer Disco Party will soon be available from the Parish office so, if you would like come along for a bit of a dance and help the fund raising effort into the bargain, you are welcome to come along on the night and bring your friends. Hope to see you there.
Talk and Tea ‘Chocolate’ Event A final word on the Talk and Tea Chocolate event, which took place a few weeks ago: after all our expenses were paid, we raised a total of £415.00! So, a very big ‘Thank You’ to Jane Green and everyone else who made that day the great success that it was.
Monday Home Group – 2:30 pm at 92 Dumpton Park Drive Broadstairs CT10 1RL
NB We shall not be meeting tomorrow Monday 4th June. Resume again on Monday 11th June, where we will reflect together for about an hour on different aspects of the Bible Readings heard in church the previous day, and then conclude with fellowship over a cup of tea. As each session is a ‘stand-alone’, newcomers are warmly invited to join us. If you’d like to know more, do please phone Michael & Elspeth Cooke on 863293.
Wednesday Home Group – 2.30 pm at St Leu, Vicarage Street
We start each meeting with a short prayer and will then remind ourselves of the readings from the previous Sunday. Then open discussion, very open quite often! Parish and world-wide goings-on get a hearing! Also we probably have space for a couple more regulars. Or you might like to visit once to see what goes on. Please ring John Cox on 07989 057737 for more information.
