St Peters Church is fortunate in having two community halls, one dating from the 1970s and the other (known as The Portland Centre) built in 1990. They are both available for public hire and have a Thanet-wide reputation for their décor, cleanliness and adjacent free car parking. They are both well used for children’s birthday parties and money raising social events such as quiz nights and dances.
The Main Hall has just been refurbished using money raised from fund raising events and a very generous grant of £15,000 from the Garfield Weston Foundation. It has an electric screen and multimedia sound system, as well as a well-equipped kitchen all of which are available for use by our hirers. There is also a hearing loop available.
The Portland Centre has a small seminar room (Mulberry Room) in addition to a hall which are available for separate or joint hire. There is a small kitchen area (with cooker, fridge and dishwasher). Both halls have good facilities for ‘do it yourself’ catering on a large scale or by catering contractors who might wish to use the facilities.
Free WiFi is available in both buildings with login details on the various noticeboards.
A wide cross section of community activities takes place in our venues. For a list of current activities click here
The community hall foyer is open from 10am to midday for anyone wanting to sit for a chat, take the weight off their feet or just enjoy a coffee (donation welcome).
