Coronavirus and Church Life

We have received the following guidance from the Church of England:

Parishioners with coughs and sneezes should be encouraged to receive Communion in one kind only, and to refrain from handshaking during the Peace. Avoiding the practice of ‘intinction’ when the consecrated bread is dipped into the wine as this could represents an infection transmission route. Thank you for your help and understanding with this. Rev Jan

Changing Lives Prayer Network Prayer Card Lent to Easter

Is now available by the South door. Please take a card. The idea is to look at the image each day throughout Lent and ask God to speak to you about the journey you are on, the wilderness experiences you have known and the green shoots of hope you see around you. Rev Jan

Count Your Blessings this Lent

Christian Aid’s Count Your Blessings Calendar gives a daily thought and action for each day during Lent We’ll learn more about how people like Faith and Beatrice in Kenya are coping with life at the sharp end of climate change which has pushed their communities to the edge of survival. If you would like to use this resource as part of your Lenten reading, copies are now available near the south door or ask Elspeth Cooke (863293) for a copy.

On Saturday 29th February at 12 noon the Revd. Brian Sharp will be giving our Lent Talk in the Main Hall. This will be followed by a soup lunch.

Fundraising Committee Report for Sunday 23rd February 2020

Boot Fair – Saturday 15th February

Last Saturday’s Boot Fair was a great success. The ‘footfall’ was higher than usual and most of the sellers seemed to do quite well, including our own church tables. The success was entirely due to the efforts of all the helpers and would not have been possible without their hard work and dedication. A heartfelt thanks to everyone involved. In the end, we made just under £360.00 – a terrific result.

Beetle Drive

At the time of writing, the Beetle Drive has not yet taken place. A full report will be made in next week’s news sheet.

Talk – ‘Round the World in a Double Decker Bus’

On Thursday 12th March (2.00pm to 4,30pm) there will be a talk in the Main Hall by Richard King. In the early ‘70s he and a group of friends bought an old double-decker bus, fitted it out, and drove it round the world! It seems amazing to think that anyone could successfully make such a journey, but these guys did it! I don’t imagine that it could be done now – it would be too dangerous! Richard now tells of his experiences in a very interesting talk and he is coming to St. Peter’s in March to deliver it for us. The event will take place in the Community Hall and Afternoon Tea, with sandwiches and cake, will be served as part of the event. Tickets are available now at £10.00 each and can be bought by calling at the Parish Office in Hopeville Avenue (opening hours are 9.00am to 1.00pm weekdays) or by telephoning on 01843 866061. The talk is both fascinating and hilarious so note the date in your diary, tell your friends about it and come along.

Boot Fair – Saturday 21st March

A Boot Fair (yes, another one!) will take place on Saturday 21st March. Tables are available at £10.00 each and can be hired from the Parish Office (address above).

Quiz Night

The next Quiz Night will take place on Friday 3rd April from 7.00pm to 10.30pm so, if you would like to get a team together, you might like to start preparing. Tickets £10.00 each are now available, which includes fish & chips that will be served during the interval as usual.

Monday Home Group 2:30 pm at 92 Dumpton Park Drive, CT10 1RL

We meet weekly to share in some of the glories and encouragement contained within the Bible Readings heard in Church the previous day.  You’d be most welcome – even for a one-off – there’s no obligation to have to say anything!  After the hour of reflection, we then enjoy tea and fellowship.  For more details, please phone Michael or Elspeth Cooke on 863293.

The Wednesday Home Group.

We will begin our Lent Course on Wednesday March 4th at 2.30 pm at St. Leu. Details of the course will follow in the next news sheet. All are welcome. Contact: June Binfield.  or 01843 861286 or 07711 072233.
