Week of prayer for Christian unity

Come and join all churches in Broadstairs and St Peter’s for an ecumenical evening service at Queens Road Baptist Church, Broadstairs on Sunday 19th January 2020 commencing at 6:30pm. No Taizé Service here at St Peter’s.

The Mayor’s Civic Service with The Bishop of Dover – The Rt Rev’d Rose Hudson-Wilkin will take place on the 9th February at 11am. Please note there will be no 9:30 Sunday Praise on the 9th Feb.

Thank you from Rick and Greta

Who thank the congregation for their prayers over the past year. Rick is not yet out of the woods but has had encouraging news saying he has no suspected tumour in the brain.  Greta is also now improving after her hip replacement and is walking with a frame and beginning to go for walks outside. They hope to get back to church soon.

Christmas Tree Festival

Belated thanks to all who helped in various ways at the Christmas Tree Festival. It was a huge success, enjoyed by so many visitors to the church, and also raised over £600 for church funds but only possible because of the work and time given by so many volunteers, especially those involved in setting up on the Thursday and clearing up after the event on Monday.   If you have any ideas for the theme for the coming year please contact me. Pauline Osborne

Christmas Decorations

Many, many thanks to everyone who donated Christmas items for the choir’s stall at the Festive Fayre. We made around £400 which we were delighted with.

Thinking ahead to this year, please remember us when you dismantle your decorations after Christmas. We are hoping to repeat the event and would therefore be very grateful for any unwanted items – baubles, wreaths, trees, tinsel, gifts etc. etc. etc. They can be left in the choir vestry, the parish office or I can collect if necessary. (01843 602956). With best wishes to all for a happy and healthy 2020. Sue Barker.

The Winter Shelter.

Thank you for your wonderful support so far. The shelter continues through January and February offering accommodation and welfare services and helping to rebuild damaged lives. Please give new socks, new underwear, rucksacks, toiletries both male and female and feminine hygiene items. Please leave your donations in the Church or in the Parish Office. Contact: June Binfield  / 01843 861286 / 07711 072233.

Charity coffee pod & crisp packet recycling

I will be collecting crisp packets and Tassimo coffee pods in aid of the Kent air ambulance. They can be given to me at church service or I will leave a box for them to be placed in which will be located in the children’s corner. So far we have collected 600 coffee pods and 1600 crisps packets which have been sent off to raise funds for the air ambulance. Thank you from Toni Lawrence.

Fundraising Committee Report for Sunday 12th January 2020

There are several tables still available for next Saturday’s Boot Fair. Anyone who would like to hire one (at £10.00 each) should contact the Parish office in Hopeville Avenue or call on 01843 866061. Please note that the office is only open and available to take phone calls between 9.00am and 1.00pm on weekdays. Tables are not considered to be reserved until the £10.00 fee has been paid.

Dinner and Dance

On 12th June 2020, St. Peter’s will run a Dinner and Dance event at the Pavilion in Broadstairs. It’s not often that we advertise our forthcoming events this early, but we a looking to make this as successful as possible in order to raise funds for the church, so we thought that a ‘heads up’ like this would be appropriate. Over the past few months, the FR Committee have been in discussions with Frank Thorley, the owner of the Pavilion and the organiser of many Dinners and Dances over the years, and we have come up with an offering that we hope will appeal to everyone. There will be a three course dinner, a small ‘swing’ band, a raffle and a ‘table auction’ and we hope it will all be great fun for everybody. Tickets will be £35.00 each, which we realise is quite expensive, but it should be a very enjoyable and worthwhile event and we hope that as many people as possible will be able to come, so, put 12th June in your diaries. If you want to, you could tell your friends and neighbours and perhaps make up a whole table! Either way, you can have a great evening and support St. Peter’s at the same time! Tickets won’t be available for a while yet but keep an eye on the News Sheet for further updates.

Raffle Prizes

We are always looking for more prizes for our raffles so, if you have anything suitable that you don’t want, please remember us. The next event which will involve a raffle will be a ‘Beetle Drive’ in February (of which more later), so including things appropriate for children would be especially welcome.

Monday Home Group 2:30 pm at 92 Dumpton Park Drive, CT10 1RL

Are you still looking for an achievable and joyful New Year Resolution? Then come and join us tomorrow (Monday 13th) as we resume meeting weekly to share in some of the glories and encouragement contained within the Bible Readings heard in Church the previous day.  You’d be most welcome – even for a one-off – there’s no obligation to have to say anything!  After the hour of reflection through the Bible, art and music, we then enjoy tea and fellowship.  For more details, please phone Michael or Elspeth Cooke on 863293.

The Wednesday Home Group.

We will meet again on Wednesday, 5th February at 2.30 pm at St. Leu. Irving will be continuing our study of the early books of the Old Testament. All are welcome. Contact: June Binfield.  or 01843 861286 or 07711 072233
