Diocese of Canterbury Advent Justice Appeal.
The collection today Advent Sunday (1st December) will go to the Advent Justice Appeal, which will go towards continuing our vital work with refugees across the Diocese. Please give generously.
All the dates have been taken which is fantastic as this means Mary and Joseph (and donkey) will have somewhere to stay for the whole of Advent. The list is now in the office so if you cannot remember which day you are hosting them or where you are to take them, you can check in the office. Mary and Joseph will be starting on their journey straight after today’s service. Any questions please give me a ring (01843 869169) Rev Jan
Churches together carol singing
Please come and join in the churches together carol singing, on Thursday 19th December at Tesco Extra Westwood between 4:30 and 5:30pm. This is a wonderful opportunity to sing together with all the churches in Broadstairs and St Peter’s. A collection is being taken for Thanet Winter Shelter.
Charles Watson’s ashes will finally be laid to rest in the Garden of Remembrance on Monday 2nd December at 11am. You are all welcome to attend, and people are invited back to the vicarage for coffee afterwards.
Hosted in the Baptist Church by all the churches of St Peters is a great opportunity to release all of our people to work together to encourage our local children to explore and receive the real meaning of Christmas. This will take place on Monday 2nd December: Bromstone School from 1pm until 3pm (helpers arrive from 12noon) and Friday 13th December: St Peters School from 1pm until 3pm (helpers arrive from 12noon). Please contact Rhodri Walters: for more information and to let him know if you can help with this.
Monday at 7.
Our next event is tomorrow, Monday 2nd December, for our Christmas Dinner at the Golf Club. We are meeting at 6.30 for drinks, and sitting down to eat at 7pm. Please note the earlier time of meeting. It should be a good evening. Any queries, contact Marion Brown, Tel: 604524, email: . Thank you.
Political Hustings at St. Luke’s Church Ramsgate
A political husting for Thanet South has been organised at St. Luke’s in Ramsgate on Monday 9th December, 7:30-9:00pm.
Christmas Tree Festival 13th to 15th December
As usual, YOUR help is going to be invaluable in making this year’s Festival a success once again. As well as willing volunteers to be at the door to welcome visitors during the times the church is open, help is also needed early on Thursday 12th December to set up the trees and also on Monday 16th to tidy the church ready for the Christmas services. If you are able to assist in any way, please put your name on the relevant rota by the south door. Many thanks. Pauline Osborne
Many thanks to everyone who contributed to the Toilet Twinning appeal. We managed to raise enough money to twin two toilets. This means that communities in Malawi and Zambia will have the materials and instruction to build their community toilet. Hopefully we won’t have to wait too long before we get the framed certificates from the charity. Thank you again, Caroline Pile
The Winter Shelter
Carl from the Salvation Army is very grateful for your generous gifts and he says the Shelter is going well. Please give new socks, new underwear, clothes such as coats, jeans, T-shirts and jumpers. Gloves and hats are also welcome. Please leave your donations in the Church or in the Parish office. I will suggest different items from time to time. Thank you,
Card Making – Christmas Cards
Christmas cards are now on sale in church after the 9.30 service, and in the foyer of the Church hall. Prices remain the same as last year, with packs of five for £1 and larger individual cards for 40p each. Please support the church by purchasing our cards. Thank you once again for saving your card fronts and cellophane bags and giving them to us. Jan Gee.
Charity coffee pod & crisp packet recycling
I will be collecting crisp packets and Tassimo coffee pods in aid of the Kent air ambulance. They can be given to me at church service or I will leave a box for them to be placed in which will be located in the children’s corner. Thank you from Toni Lawrence.
Fundraising Committee Report for Sunday 1st December 2019
I would like to thank all those who helped in any way to produce nearly £3500 at last week’s Festive Fayre. This figure could not have been achieved without your help. Whether you were setting up on the Friday, running a stall, contributing some bric-a-brac, prizes for the raffles and tombola, cooking home-made cakes, or supporting the Fayre on the day and spending your money with us, it all produced a successful and enjoyable community event. The final result was amazing and thank you all again. It has been pointed out to me that the spreadsheet that I emailed to all the stall holders, did not include the result of the Christmas Decorations Stall, which Sue Barker had produced single handed. Her stall raised a staggering £374.65. Thank you Sue and my apologies. Roger Waddell.
Indoor Boot Fair
The latest Indoor Boot Fair took place on Saturday 30th November and a full report about its success and any funds raised will appear in next week’s News Sheet.
‘Tunes and Tea’
A new event called ‘Tunes and Tea’ will run in the Main Hall on Tuesday 3rd December, starting at 2.00pm and going on until 4.00pm. Bob Drywood will play the Piano, his wife Pat will sing and the tea (and cakes) will be served in the interval. Bob has put together a terrific programme of music, including some Songs from the Musicals, a few Christmas Carols and some sing-along Music Hall numbers to end with. We’ll all know most of the songs and almost everyone likes tea and cake, so why not come along and see what it’s like. There are still some Tickets available at £5.00 each and you can get yours from the Parish office at Hopeville Avenue, Broadstairs, which is open between 9.00am and 1.00pm weekdays. Alternatively, you can call on 01834 866061 to reserve your place (N.B. Reservations are not guaranteed until payment has been made). Hope to see you there!
We will need cakes for the ‘Tunes and Tea’ event, so can I appeal to the many excellent cake-makers among us to consider baking a cake for this occasion. We will be more than grateful for anyone who can help us out in this way and your efforts will go a long way towards making ‘Tunes and Tea’ a success so, if you can help, please contact Marion Brown (acting Cake Liaison officer!)
Many kind people have donated raffle prizes and we are more than grateful to you all. However, we always need prizes for the many events which we run throughout the year, so please don’t forget us when you come across one of those things that you just don’t need any more!
Monday Home Group 2:30 pm at 3 Elizabeth Court, North Foreland Road, CT10 1EW
Through art, music and few words, we reflect each week on a different Advent theme – this week (2nd) it’s ‘Thanksgiving’ (the week’s topic in Tom Wright’s excellent book ‘Advent for Everyone’). NB Please note the change of venue for December! If you are looking for a time of refreshment in this busy season, do come and join us, even for a one-off! After the hour of reflection, we then enjoy tea and fellowship. For more details, please phone Michael or Elspeth Cooke on 863293.
