                                                 (St. Andrew’s Church)

This Advent we will be taking part in POSADA. This is a Church Army resource for churches and families to journey with Mary and Joseph through Advent. Taking inspiration from the ‘Las Posadas’ festival celebrated across Latin America, Posada (meaning shelter or lodging) is about reflecting, as a church, family or community, on the journey undertaken by Mary and Joseph on their way to Bethlehem.

On the 1st Sunday of Advent, (December 1st) Mary, Joseph and the donkey will start out on their journey from St Peters Church out in to the community, returning to Church on the 24th December (Christingle and Nativity Service 4pm) in time for the birth of their child on Christmas Eve.

Included with Mary and Joseph is the Posada Prayer for you to say together as Mary and Joseph are passed over to the next Posada Host. The prayer is about asking God to reveal something of the Christmas story to us all, and to pray for those who, like Mary and Joseph when they arrived in Bethlehem, don’t have anywhere to stay.

If you would like to host Mary and Joseph (and the donkey) in your home for one night during Advent, please sign up on the sheet by the South Door. Please note that it will be your responsibility to contact the next person on the list and arrange to deliver the Holy Family to them. I hope you will all take part. Rev Jan

“World Toilet Day”

The EcoChurch survey asks us to care for communities locally and worldwide. Tuesday 19th November is “World Toilet Day”. A £60 donation to toilet, part of Tearfund, will provide a basic toilet, clean water and hygiene education to a community in South America, Africa or Asia. Please consider donating £1 into the Church’s red bucket today Sunday 17th November to twin St Peter’s Church with a community in need. Thank you, Caroline Pile.

Will all those that give regularly under the ENVELOPE SCHEME NB that your new BOX & LETTER is ready for collection for the coming year by the South Door as you come into Church. Thankyou – Caren Bumpstead. Stewardship Sec.

Thank you

Greta Collins would like to thank everyone for their kind thoughts and prayers during her and Rick’s recent illnesses. She says she is now feeling better and hoping to get walking again soon, although Rick is still awaiting his results.

Monday at 7.

Our next event is our Christmas Dinner at the Golf Club, on Monday 2nd December, 6.30 for 7pm.  Please note earlier time of meeting, drinks are at 6.30! Any queries, contact Marion Brown at Tel 604524, email: . Thank you.

Card Making – Christmas Cards

Christmas cards are now on sale in church after the 9.30 service, and in the foyer of the Church hall. Prices remain the same as last year, with packs of five for £1 and larger individual cards for 40p each. Please support the church by purchasing our cards. Thank you once again for saving your card fronts and cellophane bags and giving them to us. Jan Gee.

Charity coffee pod & crisp packet recycling

I will be collecting crisp packets and Tassimo coffee pods in aid of the Kent air ambulance. They can be given to me at church service or I will leave a box for them to be placed in which will be located in the children’s corner. Thank you from Toni Lawrence.

Fundraising Committee Report for Sunday 17th November 2019

The Concert of Baroque music with the Thanet Sinfonia took place in the Church last Saturday evening and will be reported in more detail in next week’s News Sheet.

Festive Fayre

Just a reminder that the Festive Fayre is taking place next Saturday in both Church Halls, and you can bring any items for sale and prizes into the office as from tomorrow (Monday 18th) morning, between 10am and noon Monday – Friday.  Cakes and perishables must be delivered on Friday pm or Saturday morning at 9am please, and don’t forget to include a list of ingredients otherwise we can’t offer them for sale. Thank you for your support and we look forward to seeing you and your friends at the Fayre on Saturday 10 am to 2 pm. Admission Free.

Indoor Boot Fair

The next Boot fair is on Saturday 30th November in the Main Hall, starting at 9.00am. Tables are available at £10 each. Almost all the 22 tables have now been hired but there are still a few left so, anyone who wishes to take one up should contact the Parish office in Hopeville Avenue, Broadstairs (open between 9.00am and 1.00pm weekdays) as soon as possible. Alternatively, you can call on 01834 866061. However, no table can be considered to be firmly booked until the £10 fee has been paid. You will need to hurry as this will be the last Boot fair before Christmas and tends to be popular.

‘Tunes and Tea’

A new event called ‘Tunes and Tea’ will run in the Main Hall on Tuesday 3rd December, starting at 2.00pm and going on until 4.00pm. Bob Drywood will play the Piano, his wife Pat will sing and the tea (and cakes) will be served in the interval. Bob has put together a terrific programme of music, including some Songs from the Musicals, a few Christmas Carols and some sing-along Music Hall numbers to end with. We’ll all know most of the songs and almost everyone likes tea and cake, so why not come along and see what it’s like. Tickets are £5 each and can be obtained from the Parish office at the address above.

We will need cakes for the ‘Tunes and Tea’ event, so can I appeal to the many excellent cake-makers among us to consider baking a cake for this event. We will be more than grateful for anyone who can help us out in this way and your efforts will go a long way towards making this event a success so, if you can help, please contact Marion Brown (acting Cake Liaison officer!)

Raffle Prizes

Many kind people have donated raffle prizes and we are more than grateful to you all. However, we always need prizes for the many events which we run throughout the year, so please don’t forget us when you come across one of those things that you just don’t need any more!
