A Time to Remember Sunday 3rd November

We will be holding our Annual Time to Remember Service in church at 4pm. The service will include familiar hymns and prayers of comfort, and loved ones will be remembered by name. There will also be an opportunity to light a candle in memory of those you have loved who have died. If you would like the name of a loved one read out at this service, please add their name to the sheet in church or in the office by Wednesday 30th October. Thank you Rev’d. Jan

Evening services

Have resumed after the summer break. Choral Evensong takes place on the 2nd and last Sunday evening of the month and Taizé on the 3rd Sunday – both services beginning at 6:30pm. A lovely way to end your Sunday!

Monday at 7.

Our next event is on Monday 14th October, tomorrow, at Bella Italia, Westwood Cross, at 1pm.  Looking forward to seeing you all there. Any queries, contact Marion Brown, Tel; 604524. Thank you.

Servers in Church

We are in need of some servers in church – they help up at the altar at the main Sunday 9.30 am service. Full training will be given, but it is not that complicated! Please see Rev Jan or Gill Horne (Sacristan) if this is something you feel you could help with. Rev Jan

Come and Sing!

Join our choir for our Christmas music celebrations – Christmas Tree Festival (14th Dec.) and Carol Service (15th Dec.). If you are interested please speak to Patrick or a member of the choir or email:

Card Making.

Christmas cards are now on sale in church after the 9.30 service, and in the foyer of the Church hall. Prices remain the same as last year, with packs of five for £1 and larger individual cards for 40p each. Please support the church by purchasing our cards. Thank you once again for saving your card fronts and cellophane bags and giving them to us. Jan Gee.

Fabric matters

Work on the roof of the church will start at the end of September, and this is expected to take about two weeks. Following on from this, work will start on the stonework repairs on 21st October, and this is expected to last 16 weeks.

Climate Change

At its last meeting the PCC agreed to seriously consider the effects of Climate Change, initially by taking part in the Eco Church Award Scheme. Caroline Pile was nominated to lead on this and you are reminded of her pieces in previous News Sheets requesting comments, suggestions or ideas to help our church “go green”. Please keep submitting them and don’t forget to bring a cup from home for coffee after the service? Our cups are biodegradable (and will still be available), but they still need to be disposed of and may not be recycled correctly.

As Christians we have a responsibility for caring for God’s earth – wider than our church – and there is an opportunity for outreach and mission. In pursuit of this it is thought that a group of 4-5 like-minded people join in with Caroline to see what more we can do. If a 16 year old girl from Sweden can waken up the world, what can we do? The aim is not to do the work of other organisations, but share our thoughts and actions.

Rather than burden Caroline with all the work, please contact Rev David Tate on 01843 447861 to register an interest.

Charity coffee pod & crisp packet recycling

I will be collecting crisp packets and Tassimo coffee pods in aid of the Kent air ambulance. They can be given to me at church service or I will leave a box for them to be placed in which will be located in the children’s corner. Thank you from Toni Lawrence.

Fundraising Committee Report for Sunday 13th October 2019

Quiz Night

The Quiz Night was a huge success and we raised no less than £816.00 for the church – a sum which might be a record for this kind of event. However, none of this would have been possible without the work of Jane Green, who devised the questions and acted as the presenter, Jane’s two invaluable colleagues, who did all the calculation and paperwork, Pauline Osborne, who ran the raffle and Don Bumpstead, who ran the whole event. Huge thanks to them all. The next Quiz Night will take place on Friday 3rd April next year so, if you enjoyed this latest one, put the date in your diary!

Fashion Show – Friday 1st November in St Peter’s Main Hall – 7.00pm for 7.30pm start

A Fashion Show, in collaboration between St. Peters and Roman Fashions, has been arranged for the evening of Friday 1st November and will take place in the Parish Hall. The last show was a couple of years ago and was great fun for everyone concerned. Tickets are now available at £7.00 each and may be obtained from the Parish Office in Hopeville Avenue (open between 9.00am and 1.00pm each weekday) or by calling the office on 01843 866061. Indoor Boot Fair

The next Boot fair will take place on Saturday 30th November, starting at 9.00am and finishing at 12.00pm. Tables are £10 each to hire and can be booked by calling at the Parish Office (details as above). Tea, Coffee and other refreshments (especially hot bacon rolls!) will be available on the day. Tables for the November Boot Fair are selling fast and the hall has only limited space, so book early to avoid disappointment.
