Servers in Church
We are in need of some servers in church – they help up at the altar at the main Sunday 9.30 am service. Full training will be given, but it is not that complicated! Please see Rev Jan or Gill Horne (Sacristan) if this is something you feel you could help with. Rev Jan
Have resumed after the summer break. Choral Evensong takes place on the 2nd and last Sunday evening of the month and Taizé on the 3rd Sunday – both services beginning at 6:30pm. A lovely way to end your Sunday!
The group met after the summer on 13th September to begin work on this year’s Christmas cards. We will be selling them from the first Sunday in October in church after the 9.30 service and in the foyer of the Church hall. The prices will remain the same as last year, with packs of five for £1and larger individual cards for 40p each. Please support the church by purchasing our cards. Thank you once again for saving your card fronts and cellophane bags and giving them to us. Jan Gee.
Work on the roof of the church will start at the end of September, and this is expected to take about two weeks. Following on from this, work will start on the stonework repairs on 21st October, and this is expected to last 16 weeks.
Our church is taking part in the Eco Church Award Scheme run by arocha.org.uk. I have been asked by the PCC to lead on this. Awards are gained by our church “going green”. Please contact me for information or with comments, suggestions or ideas. Also as a small step in caring for God’s earth, could you please, if you can, bring a cup from home for coffee after the service? Our cups are biodegradable
(and will still be available), but they still need to be disposed of and may not be recycled correctly. Thank you, Caroline Pile.
Does anyone have any spare DK Wool please? I am knitting stripey hats and gloves for the winter shelter. Thank you, Caroline Pile.
Charity coffee pod & crisp packet recycling
I will be collecting crisp packets and Tassimo coffee pods in aid of the Kent air ambulance. They can be given to me at church service or I will leave a box for them to be placed in which will be located in the children’s corner. Thank you from Toni Lawrence.
Monday at 7.
Our next event is on Monday 14th October, for lunch at Bella Italia, Westwood Cross, meeting at 1pm. It has a very varied menu, something for everyone I think. It is where Cafe Rouge used to be. Please let me know if you are coming. Contact Marion Brown, Tel 604524, email Thank you.
Come and Sing! The choir invites you to join us in presenting our music for Christmas. Please let Patrick know and he will inform you further.
Fundraising Committee Report for Sunday 6th October 2019
At the time of writing this entry, nearly all the tables for the Quiz Night had sold out. We don’t yet have the results, but there will no doubt be an announcement in Church this coming Sunday and they will, in any case, be reported in next week’s news sheet.
Fashion Show – Friday 1st November in St Peter’s Main Hall – 7.00pm for 7.30pm start
A Fashion Show, in collaboration between St. Peters and Roman Fashions, has been arranged for the evening of Friday 1st November and will take place in the Parish Hall. The last show was a couple of years ago and was great fun for everyone concerned. Tickets are now available at £7.00 each and may be obtained from the Parish Office in Hopeville Avenue (open between 9.00am and 1.00pm each weekday) or by calling the office on 01843 866061. This show will comprise day wear, some outer wear and evening wear from Roman Fashions. Please keep the tickets afterwards to get a 10% discount if you visit the Roman outlet In Wyevale garden centre.
Indoor Boot Fair
The Boot fair on 21st September raised the princely sum of £351.00 for church funds. All tables were sold out and the event was well attended. All thanks is due to Hamish and Kate MacGregor, Allyson Burgess, Marion Brown, Jane Green and Pauline Osborne, without whose willing efforts the success of this event would not have been possible. The next Boot fair will take place on Saturday 30th November.
