Changing Lives Prayer Network Prayer Cards produced by the Canterbury Diocesan Prayer Network can be found on the table by the south porch – please do take one home after the service.

In preparation for the Archdeacon’s visit on 17 March, there will be a working party on  Friday 8 March from 9am until about 12 noon, to tidy the outside of the church, and give the interior a spring clean. Refreshments will be provided. If you can spare an hour please come. Thank you, Richard Baker chair fabric committee.

OLD PALM CROSSES If you would like your old palm cross to be burnt for ash and used to mark the forehead of those who come to church on Ash Wednesday please leave it either at the back of church or in the Parish Office. Thank you

Count Your Blessings this Lent

Christian Aid’s Count Your Blessings Calendar gives a daily thought and action for each day during Lent.  It’s packed with prayers and reflections to really enrich your Lenten journey.  If you would like to use this resource as part of your Lenten reading, copies are now available near the south door or ask Elspeth Cooke (863293) for a copy.

The World Day of Prayer is a Worldwide, Ecumenical Women-led movement. Each year we admire the strength of the communities who participate, empathize with their concerns and are encouraged by their faith. Our vision is a world in which all women can make decisions about their own lives.  As we move forward we look for signs of encouragement and solidarity. 0ur offering today is one of these signs as it will be used to strengthen communities throughout the world by supporting programmes which enable women and children to have a better quality of life. Come and join us for this year’s service at St. Peter’s Baptist Church on Friday 1st March at 2pm. COME EVERYTHING IS READY!  PREPARED BY CHRISTIAN WOMEN OF SLOVENIA.

ENQUIRING ABOUT THE CHRISTIAN FAITH For those of you who are thinking about getting confirmed, or those who are already, but want to learn more about the Christian faith, I am planning to hold some sessions after Easter. Please have a word with me if you are interested,    and we can then decide what time of the day will be best for you all. Rev’d Jan (01843 869169).

Dates for your diary

ASH WEDNESDAY 6th March. This year we will be holding a sung Eucharist at 10am on Ash Wednesday. There will be no evening service.

There will be NO 8am service on the 17th March as I would like to encourage all the congregation to come to the 9:30 service when the Archdeacon will install me (Rev Jan) as your vicar. This will be followed by cake and prosecco.

The Taize service in March will be on the fourth Sunday of the month (24th March) instead of the third (17th March). No evening service on the 17th March

Annual Parochial Church Meeting Sunday April 7th at 11am in Parish and Community Halls. Please note change of date.

The PCC have applied for a faculty to build a display table over the first pew in the South aisle. Full details of the application are available in the Parish office, and the plans are on the notice board in the church porch.

If you wish to discuss it, or have any comments or objections please see Richard Baker or a member of the Fabric Committee. Richard Baker Chair Fabric Committee

Monday @ 7: Our next event is on Monday 11th March at St Andrews Church, Reading Street, at 7pm.  It will be a musical evening, arranged by Bob and Pat Drywood, known as The Marley Players, and will include music, songs and anecdotes from well known Musicals.  If you would like to bring friends to this event, including any from our congregation, you will all be most welcome.  Please let me know whether or not you are coming, plus any extra people.  Contact Marion Brown, Tel 604524, email . Fundraising Committee Report for Sunday 24th February 2019

Tea and Beetle Drive

The Tea and Beetle Drive event went really well, thanks to the efforts of Jan Gee and all our volunteer helpers. We had enough enthusiastic Beetle players for ten tables and quite a lot of children were involved, so the hall rang to regular shouts of ‘Beetle!’ Tea and cakes were served in the interval, the cakes being provided by a lot of people from the church who took the trouble to bake, deliver and, in many cases, serve them as well. Overall, we raised £259.50 for the church funds, but it wouldn’t have been possible without all the good people who helped us on the day and we offer heartfelt thanks to each and every one of them.

Indoor Boot Fair

The tables for the next Boot Fair, which will take place on Saturday 23rd March, are selling already and we haven’t even advertised it yet so, if you would like to hire a table, you might need to hurry.  The table hire charge is £10.00 each and you can reserve one by contacting the Parish office (tel. 01843 866061) between 9.00am and 1.00pm on weekdays. You can pay at the office itself or electronically. However, if you would rather just come along on the day and browse or buy a few things, don’t forget to mark the 23rd March in your diary, and tell your friends too.

Quiz Night

The next Quiz Night (formerly known as ‘Wine and Wisdom’) will take place on Friday 5th April. Tickets are £10.00 each this time and those who have been before will know that this is represents a small increase. However, Fish and Chips will be served to everyone during the interval as part of the ticket price and our costs have been rising over the past few years, so I hope everyone will understand the need for the slightly higher charge. You can book up at the Parish Office, either in person or by telephone (01843 866061) between 9.00am and 1.00pm. Alternatively, you can indicate an interest by email or on the church’s Facebook site, although bookings cannot be confirmed until payment is made. In the past, our quiz nights have been very well supported and enjoyed by everyone – the Fish and Chips have always gone down particularly well so, if you are interested, please sign up. Looking forward to seeing you there!

‘The Christ We Share’ – Monday afternoons in Lent: 2:30 pm at 92 Dumpton Park Drive “A picture can be worth 1000 words” – so, starting on Monday 11th March, we will be reflecting for an hour each week on images of Christ from across the world. Marvelling at some of the perhaps surprising insights from other cultures, we look forward to being more inspired by and confident in the Lord we try to serve.  If you’d like to take part in such a journey of encouragement, please join us. (NB On 25th February the Monday Home group continues to explore the Bible Readings heard in church the previous day. No meeting on 4th March.)  Do phone us on 863293 if you’d like more details. Michael & Elspeth Cooke.

The Wednesday Home Group.

The Wednesday group will meet in Lent at St. Leu at 2.30 pm, beginning on 6th March and every Wednesday thereafter until the 10th April. We will use The Nail by Stephen Cottrell. We will look at the crucifixion through the eyes of six key witnesses in each of the six sessions. If you have any questions, contact June, ( , 07711 072233 or 01843 861286.).

We are always SO grateful for the cash donations given each week at services. If you are a tax payer it would be an even greater benefit if you could put your donation in a completed yellow Gift Aid envelope so that we can recover the extra 25p in every pound given!
