Reflections on Advent through Art, Music and Word

Following last year’s much appreciated pattern, we look forward again to three Monday afternoons in December quietly contemplating together some of the great themes of the Advent season.  We warmly welcome anyone who’d like to join us for such times of stillness in what can otherwise seem a very busy season.

To help us, we will draw on some of the art, pictures, music and Bible passages associated with the season – and by special request this year, we’ll also take time each week to reflect on one or two of the great Advent hymns with the glorious affirmations they portray. The themes for each week will broadly be:-
3rd December     John the Baptist (who heralds the Coming)
10th December   Mary (Mother of God)
17th December   Emmanuel (God with us – Indeed, “Come, Lord Jesus!”)

We meet at 92 Dumpton Park Drive CT10 1RL, the home of Michael & Elspeth Cooke; each session will start at 2:30 pm and end at around 4 pm with tea and biscuits.

If you’d like to know more, please do phone us on 863293. Michael & Elspeth Cooke.

Monday @ 7: Our next event will be our Christmas Dinner at the Golf Club, on Monday 3rd December.  It should be an enjoyable evening, and I look forward to seeing you all there.  Any queries, please contact Marion Brown, Tel 604524, email  Thank you.

Fundraising Committee Report for Sunday 25th November 2018

Indoor Boot Fair

The Indoor Boot Fair on 17th November went extremely well. All 22 tables were sold (we even had to turn away some late coming sellers), the refreshments almost sold out, with every bacon roll gone by the end, and the donations bucket was good and heavy by the end as well. Overall, we raised a total of £353.00 – a handsome sum by any standards – but it wouldn’t have been possible without the assistance of several very hard working and able colleagues, volunteers all, who made sure that everything went really well on the day. I can’t thank them enough and they deserve the gratitude of everyone.

Festive Fayre

A very sincere thank you to everyone who helped in any way towards the success of our Festive Fayre yesterday – that is the helpers before, during and after the Fayre. And everyone who came and supported us on the day. Rev’d Jan will announce the total today. THANK YOU ALL VERY MUCH FOR YOUR CONTINUED SUPPORT. A Great Parish Team Effort.  Roger Waddell, Fayre Co-Ordinator.

Next Events

Last week’s Boot Fair was the last fund-raising activity for 2018. Our next events are another Boot Fair on Saturday 26th January 2019 and after that, in a return to something we haven’t done for some time, there will be a ‘Tea and Beetle Drive’ event on Thursday 7th February. I hope that we can make 2019’s fund raising efforts as successful as those of this year and the more support we get the better and the more successful we’ll be, so if there is anything you can do to help, please let us know.

Monday Home Group 2:30pm at 92 Dumpton Park Drive, Broadstairs CT10 1RL

We spend about an hour reflecting on the Bible Readings heard the previous day in church, and follow this with tea and fellowship.  As each week is a therefore “stand-alone”, newcomers to the group are always most welcome.  We find it’s a good way of meeting informally for support and encouragement.  If you’d like to know more, please do phone Michael or Elspeth on 863293.

We are always SO grateful for the cash donations given each week at services.
