THE BISHOP OF DOVER – The Rt Rev’d Trevor Willmott has announced his intention to retire in May 2019. There will be an opportunity for the Diocese to say farewell at Evensong in Canterbury Cathedral and a reception afterwards on 11 May. Bishop Trevor will then conclude his public ministry by celebrating Holy Communion and preaching in the Cathedral on Sunday 12 May. Further details will be made available in early 2019.

Monday @ 7:

We enjoyed a most interesting talk by Jane about her time in the Met Police.   Our next meeting is the AGM, on Monday 12th November, at 7pm, at 21 Fig Tree Road. Please let me know if you will be attending.  Marion Brown, Tel 604524, email  Thank you.

INVITATION: Come and Sing!

If you would like to join St. Peter’s choir for Christmas celebrations, our first rehearsal will be on Friday 19th October 7.00-8.00pm in the church.

Events: Saturday 15th Dec. afternoon – Christmas Tree Festival performance

Sunday 16th Dec., 4.00pm Carol Service

South Door / Sidesman’s station we are pleased to advise you that we have received permission to re-organise the South door entrance. This will involve a new book storage cupboard positioned on the right of the door, and the removal of the present Sidesman’s station and cupboard on the left. This will give more room for chairs in the Lady Chapel, and storage for all the service books in one place. Work will start on this in the next month or so. Richard Baker, Chair Fabric Committee.

Christmas Tree Festival 2018

Would you, your business, you club or youth group like to be represented at this popular event which will be held this year from 14th to 16th December? Letters and sponsor forms will be sent this week to all those who have supported the event previously and we hope as many as possible will join us again this year but newcomers are always welcome. This year the theme is My Favourite Christmas Carol and as usual we only require a donation of at least £15 for the tree, one to one and a half metres high, which is yours to take home afterwards if you wish. Enquiries: please contact Pauline Osborne tel 01843 225801, email  or call at the parish office for details.

A Time to Remember Sunday 4th November we will be holding our Annual Time to Remember Service in church at 4pm. The service will include familiar hymns and prayers of comfort, and loved ones will be remembered by name. There will also be an opportunity to light a candle in memory of those you have loved who have died. If you would like the name of a loved one read out at this service, please add their name to the sheet in church or in the office by Wednesday 31st October. Thank you Rev’d. Jan

St Peter’s Women’s Group

Please join us on Tuesday 20th November 2018 @7.30 pm in the Portland Hall for a talk ‘A World of Lavender’ by Dr Simon Charlesworth from Downderry Farm. Tickets £3 each available from the Parish Office, Church Street Florist and Gill Lovelock (Chairperson) 861094. It should be a fascinating talk, and plants available to purchase.

Fundraising Committee Report for Sunday 14th October 2018

Choral Concert

The Choral Concert held on 6th October turned out to be a great success. The Thanet Community Gospel Choir performed terrifically and the second half of the show, which the choir had put together at the last minute to cover for the Kent Show Choir’s inability to attend, was, if anything, even better than the first part. All thanks to them and everyone who helped on the night. Altogether, we raised a net figure of more than £244.00. A really good result!

Wine & Wisdom

I made an error in last week’s news sheet, whereby I gave out incorrect information with regard to the ticket price and the start times of 2nd November’s Wine and Wisdom evening. The correct ticket price is £9.00 and the event will start at 6.30pm for 7.00pm. Sorry about my mistake. However, this price will include Fish & Chips delivered to your table, so it’s still good value, but bring your own cutlery and drinks. Seating will be at tables of up to eight and there will also be a raffle so, if you are interested, put the date in your diary and bring your friends. Tickets are available from the Parish Office.  It should be a great evening!

Indoor Boot Fair (another one!)

One of the last fund raising events for 2018 will be an additional Boot Fair, this time with a Christmas theme, on Saturday 17th November so, if you would like to book a table for £10.00, or just to come along to browse, please note this date in your diary too. More details later.

The Festive Fayre

St. Peter’s Festive Fayre will take place on 24th November, so watch this space for details.

Fund Raising 2019

Next year’s programme is still being put together, but details of next year’s fund raising fun and games will appear here soon.

Monday Home Group 2:30pm at 92 Dumpton Park Drive, Broadstairs CT10 1RL

We spend about an hour reflecting on the Bible Readings heard the previous day in church, and follow this with tea and fellowship.  As each week is a therefore “stand-alone”, newcomers to the group are always most welcome.  We find it’s a good way of meeting informally for support and encouragement.  If you’d like to know more, please do phone Michael or Elspeth on 863293.

Wednesday Home Group

This will meet again on Wednesday 7th November, 2.30pm, at St Leu.

We are always SO grateful for the cash donations given

each week at services.

If you are a tax payer it would be an even greater benefit

if you could put your donation in a completed yellow

Gift Aid envelope so that we can recover the extra 25p

in every pound given!
