A big Thank you to all those who sang at Tesco on Thursday evening with churches Together we raised £ 356.30 for Thanet Winter Shelter, Rev’d Jan.

Thank you to everyone who gave so generously to the Bishop’s Advent Appeal which raised £98.87 enabling us to send off £100 for this vital cause.

Also, last weekend’s Thanet Winter Shelter Appeal raised £66.84 which will be added to the Church’s overall contribution to this deserving appeal. Robin PageTreasurer.

Christmas Tree Festival This was a HUGE success with yet another outstanding display of trees so beautifully decorated by all the supporting organisations.

Including the Gospel Choir ticket sales, the event raised £830.83 for the Church and our thanks go to Pauline Osborne and all her helpers for making this such an ever popular – and profitable – event.

The Social Committee invites you to a Twelfth Night Party on Saturday the 6th January 2018, to be held in the Church Hall, 6-30 for 7pm. There will be mulled cider on arrival. The menu will be fresh salmon and vegetables with a choice of desserts. Please feel free to bring your own wine. A vegetarian option will be available. Please note any dietary requirements on the sheet in the office. There will be entertainment after the meal. Tickets are now available from the Parish Office price £9.

Thanet Winter Shelter. Thank you for some wonderful gifts of warm clothing including hats, scarves, gloves and thermal jogging trousers. Next week please give men’s boxer style underwear, size S or M, men’s toiletries except toothpaste and any more items of warm clothing. Thank you, June.

Monday at 7. Our New Year’s Party is on Saturday, January 13th at 21 Fig Tree Road at 7 for 7.30 pm. Please let Marion, ( or 01843 604524), know if you are able to bring a contribution to the food.

Many thanks again to all those who so generously contributed Christmas bits and pieces for the Christmas stall at the recent fair. It raised over £250 so I have decided that I would like to do something similar next year. Therefore this is another appeal for anything Christmassy that I can store and make use of next year. It’s an ideal time now to have a bit of a sort out. I can arrange to collect any items if necessary. Thank you, Sue Barker (07887 361249).

Christmas Cards The card making group are grateful to those who have donated the fronts of birthday cards and cellophane bags. After Christmas if you have any suitable card fronts with small designs on them please donate them via the church office. We will continue to need your donations of birthday and other card fronts. Many thanks for your continuing support. Jan Gee.

Lady Chapel We will shortly be plastering the wall in the Lady Chapel, and then the floor will be repaired and painted. We have applied for a faculty to remove the sidesmans station and cupboard on the left of the door  and a new book storage cupboard to be built on the right of the door, thus opening up the entrance to the church. Sally Wood has researched new chairs and two samples have been on view for some weeks now. Twenty of these will be needed – 10 with arms, and 10 without. The cost to include book rests and commemorative plaques is £100 each, and we are hoping members of the congregation will donate one or more chairs in memory of a loved one. If you are interested please discuss your requirements with Sally (01843 862058) and she will explain the next step. Thank you, Richard Baker Chair Fabric Committee.

FUND RAISING NEWS.

Funds raised by the Fundraising Team in 2017 will have reached nearly £15,000 through events alone. This cannot be done without the help and dedication of the organisers and other helpers, many of whom donated coffee, tea, refreshments, stationery copying and much more. A BIG thank you to you all!

We are now raising funds for the Garden of Remembrance so your continued support is important as is that of the congregation and local community.

Our first event in 2018 is an Indoor Boot Fair on Sat 27 January.  Tables are For Sale NOW (£10) and also for the one on 17 March.

On Sale in the Church Hall Foyer.

  • Christmas Cards. The lovely pencil & watercolour print of the East Window of our Church is depicted in a quality Christmas Card (A5 size) at only 50p each.
  • Special Recipe Books for St Peter’s at only £5 each-ideal small gift.

Church Website. www.stpeterinthanet.org.uk Over 2,500 ‘hits’ have been recorded for our new site since it was set up in November and Facebook (St Peter Church Broadstairs) is taking off too. Do take a look at the website with new photos of Sprats, the Lunch Club Christmas Lunch and The Christmas Tree Festival, to name but a few. The events for 2018 are also listed for your new diary.

Monday Home Group

We meet at 2:30 pm tomorrow 18th at the home of Elspeth & Michael Cooke (92 Dumpton Park Drive, Broadstairs) for the last of our series of Advent reflections.  We’ll be drawing on readings, music and pictures to help us reflect quietly on ‘The Virgin Mary’.  As ever, we welcome anyone who’d like to join us for a time of stillness in what can otherwise seem a very busy time.  After tomorrow we’re then taking a break, and expect to resume meeting on Monday 15th January.  If you’d like to know more, do phone us on 863293.

Wednesday Home Group

The Wednesday Home Group is now taking a Christmas break until January 10th when we will meet to discuss the previous Sunday’s sermon (or perhaps think about resolutions!).
