St Peter’s News Sheet 03/12/17

The collection taken at the Sunday Praise Nativity Service next Sunday will go to the Bishop’s Advent Justice Appeal. Funds raised this year will particularly go to support the following areas:

  • Continuing the work of our Refugee Officer, Domenica Pecoraro, as she focusses on assisting churches keen to support refugee families through the various Government schemes now available.
  • Helping establish the much prayed for Calais post. This will support those engaging with the many migrants still present in Northern France.
  • Some of the funds will once again be distributed to the Kent Churches Winter Night Shelter Network.

CAROL SINGING WITH CHURCHES TOGETHER Churches Together in Broadstairs have been given permission to sing carols at Tesco, Westwood Cross between 4:30 and 5:30 on Thursday 14th December. We will be collecting for the Thanet Winter Shelter. Please do join us, we need your vocal help. Thanks, Jan.

Christmas Tree Festival – Help is needed from 8.00 am on Thursday 7th December to set up the trees and later that day and Friday morning to church watch while the decorations are put on the trees by the sponsors, also for the duration of the Festival to welcome people into the church. There are rotas just inside the south door and we would be most grateful for any time you can spare. Any enquiries please telephone Pauline Osborne 01843 225801.

FREE BOOKLET ”Advent readings 2017”- is a gift for you as we enter into the season of Advent.  A time of reflection and waiting this booklet starts on the 3rd December & takes us through to Christmas Day with readings and reflections for you to meditate upon.  I hope this year you will all consider this special time and take a booklet. THEY CAN BE FOUND IN A BASKET AS YOU ENTER CHURCH WHERE THE SIDEPERSONS STAND NEAR THE SOUTH DOOR.

GIFT AID – NEW General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Those of you who kindly give by Standing Order will have received a letter from the Treasurer asking you to complete and return a revised Gift Aid Declaration to comply with new legislation coming into effect next year. Please be sure to do this as soon as possible since without this we will be unable to recover your vital Gift Aid after next April which would be a HUGE loss to the church.

Lady Chapel We will shortly be plastering the wall in the Lady Chapel, and then the floor will be repaired and painted. We have applied for a faculty to remove the sidesmans station and cupboard on the left of the door  and a new book storage cupboard to be built on the right of the door, thus opening up the entrance to the church. Sally Wood has researched new chairs and two samples have been on view for some weeks now. Twenty of these will be needed – 10 with arms, and 10 without. The cost to include book rests and commemorative plaques is £100 each, and we are hoping members of the congregation will donate one or more chairs in memory of a loved one. If you are interested please discuss your requirements with Sally (01843 862058) and she will explain the next step. Thank you, Richard Baker Chair Fabric Committee.

POSTAGE STAMPS Please keep saving your postage stamps. ‘Leukemia Care’ charity will be pleased to receive them and I am happy to co-ordinate the receipt and delivery of them. There will be a box in Church for you to put them in. Many thanks, Sally Wood.

Please support the Thanet Winter Shelter for the homeless. Today Sunday, December 3rd I will collect any donations of warm items such as gloves, scarves etc. Other gifts also welcome, apart from toothpaste. I will take them to the Salvation Army, who arrange to supply the shelter. A number of churches provide a church hall on a rota basis. The shelter provides washing facilities, a hot evening meal and breakfast and a bed for the night. Thank you, June.
